SHOP + GALLERY ASSOCIATE

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Art Base is a non-profit art center in Basalt, CO, which fosters creative expression in the visual arts for all ages and abilities, through education, exhibitions, and providing opportunities to artists and artisans. The Art Base serves the Roaring Fork Valley, specifically the mid-valley and Basalt community, which includes several adjacent unincorporated areas in both Eagle and Pitkin counties, Garfield County, and the Roaring Fork School District. We take pride in providing educational opportunities and artmaking experiences, as well as in serving as a platform for artists to exhibit their work.
The Shop Associate will be a friendly, conversational, and sales-centric person who is committed to the success of The Shop at The Art Base. The Shop Associate will engage patrons, assist the Gallery and Shop Manager with inventory, merchandising and sales, and be knowledgeable about the artists and artworks represented. This individual is often the first in-person point of contact for our community and represents the warm, welcoming qualities of the organization.
The Shop Associate will report to the Gallery and Shop Manager.
Work Location: In person.
REQUIRED JOB FUNCTIONS:
- –Liaise with Patrons/Guests
- –Greet and welcome Patrons
- –Engage patrons to purchase artworks and items in the Gallery and Shop.
- –Hand out postcards/collateral with upcoming exhibitions, classes, and workshops.
- –Invite patrons to take an art class or workshop.
- – Give tours of the facility, if requested.
- –Hand out free ”Art Kits” to families.
- –Assist organization during workshops, gallery openings, Art Base Council, and donor events (including annual gala), and artist talks.
Shop Management:
- –Ensure The Shop is open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m
- –Arrives 30 minutes before opening may stay up to 30 minutes after 5 to close.
- –Shopify cash register is opened and verified.
- –Enter new artists’ work into Shopify.
- –Works with Manager to merchandise all artwork to keep it current and appealing.
- –Update Artist/Vendor lists for the Gallery and Shop Manager
- –Work with the Gallery and Shop Manager to purchase supplies for The Shop.
- –Work with Gallery and Shop Manager to meet with local artists and potential vendors.
10 x 10 Silent Auction Event Assistance:
- –Point person for pick-up of 10 x 10 canvases prior to the event.
- –Assist in organizing all sold 10 x 10 artworks with purchasers, and preparing for
- pick-up, including pick-up follow up calls.
PREFERRED SKILLS/FUNCTIONS ALSO INCLUDE:
- – Retail experience: 2 years (Preferred but willing to train)
- – Keen attention to details and systems
- – Proficiency in Shopify and NEON (will train)
- – Excellent customer service skills
- – Superior problem-solving skills
- – TIPS certified
COMPENSATION:
This non-exempt position is 14 hours (2 days) per week (Saturdays optional). The hourly salary range is $22.00 – 24.00 an hour commensurate with experience.
