The Art Base offers a diverse range of summer art camps for kids, from preschool through elementary school. This year’s camps include everything from comic book creation to riverboats, fantasy world-building to graffiti art. Something to inspire your little ones and spark their imagination! Our local artists and teachers bring professional expertise to provide a rich and well-rounded arts education to the community.

ART ON THE EDGE

Get ready for a week full of creativity and fun! Students will dive into graffiti art, paint custom skateboard decks, design baseball hats, create comic books, and shape toys out of clay. Throughout the week, they’ll explore various artistic styles and gain fresh inspiration. A trip to the Basalt Library will spark new ideas and resources, and the workshop will culminate in a Friday art exhibit, where students proudly showcase their work!

Little artists will dive into the wonderful world of bugs and butterflies in this fun and engaging preschool art camp, “Six Legs!” Inspired by a children’s book illustrated by Sarah F. Peterson and our tiny six-legged friends—like butterflies, ladybugs, and grasshoppers—campers will explore colors, textures, and shapes while learning about the fascinating world of insects.

CAMP HELD AT ROCK BOTTOM RANCH

Birds, bees, butterflies, bats and beetles—what do they all have in common? All of these creatures are powerful pollinators. Without them, wildflowers wouldn’t bloom, and fruits and veggies wouldn’t find their way from our farms to our tables. Find out why these creatures have such a special relationship with the plants they pollinate and explore the important connections between pollinators and our food through a variety of art projects, including encaustic painting. Field trips, guest appearances and plenty of exploration will add zest to this exciting week of science and art!

Get ready for a week of creativity, storytelling, and hands-on fun! In this exciting summer art camp, children will design, construct, and paint their very own papier mâché hand puppets based on the book “Rain make Applesauce”. They’ll bring their puppets to life by building a puppet theater, crafting imaginative sets, and collaborating on an original story and soundtrack.

Throughout the week, campers will explore sculpture, painting, and performance art while working together as a troupe to develop a short puppet show. The grand finale? A special performance for parents and families to enjoy at the end of the week!

Sketch from nature and learn to observe and capture the beauty of landscapes, plants, and wildlife in your sketchbook. Using an artistic approach to documenting nature, transform your sketches into vibrant personal paintings. Get ready for a fun, letter-filled adventure in our Chicka Chicka Boom Boom Summer Art Camp! Based on the classic, colorful children’s book by Bill Martin Jr. and John Archambault, this camp will take preschoolers on a creative journey through the alphabet.

Each day, we’ll explore the world of letters through engaging art activities, songs, and games. Children will create vibrant, letter-themed art projects—painting, collaging, to see how far the alphabet can go! Through imaginative play and hands-on activities, they’ll learn about letters and sounds while developing fine motor skills, coordination, and confidence.

WORLD BUILDING

Does your child love crafting stories, designing maps, or creating characters from their imagination? Are they fascinated by open-world video games like The Legend of Zelda or tabletop role-playing games like Dungeons & Dragons? If so, our World-Building Summer Camp is the perfect adventure!

Throughout the week, campers will dive into the art of storytelling and world creation, developing their own fantasy realms, civilizations, and legendary characters. They’ll design detailed maps, craft compelling narratives, and bring their worlds to life through art, writing, and interactive storytelling.

From mythical landscapes to futuristic cities, each camper will build a unique universe, drawing inspiration from books, games, and their wildest imaginations. The week will conclude with a showcase event, where campers present their creative worlds to fellow adventurers, friends, and family.

FOOD & FARMER

Join us for a week of culinary and photographic adventures! Use the livestock and vegetables at Rock Bottom Ranch as your models and the nearby flower gardens, streams, trees, and plants as a spectacular backdrop. Learn what makes a good photograph, and examine photography’s ability to capture and tell stories about the world around you. Meet farmers and gain experience with all aspects of regenerative agriculture and ranch life.​ Be the artistic director, artist, and editor all-in-one while telling the story of regenerative agriculture at the ranch – from farm to table​. This exciting week will culminate with the opportunity for budding cooks and photographers to sleep over at the ranch on Thursday night, prepare a healthy, seasonal dish in the RBR kitchen or over the fire, and take photos of the night sky!​

*Please bring your own camera if you have access to one! Any camera will do, but it must have the ability to transfer photos to a computer. We will supply extras to campers who need them.

Join us for a fun and creative summer art camp inspired by Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?! This colorful, interactive camp is perfect for young artists who love storytelling, painting, and bringing their imaginations to life through art.

Each day, we’ll explore a new animal and a new color, just like in the beloved book! Campers will paint, collage, and craft their own vibrant animal creations while learning about colors, textures, and storytelling through art. We’ll also dive into nature-inspired activities, play creative games, and enjoy storytime sessions to spark curiosity and imagination.

By the end of the camp, every child will have their own Brown Bear-inspired art collection, filled with bright and beautiful animals!

Join us for a fun-filled Grumpy Monkey-inspired summer art camp, where young artists will explore creativity, emotions, and jungle adventures through hands-on art projects!

Inspired by Jim Panzee and his jungle friends, campers will paint, sculpt, and craft their own wild masterpieces, from expressive monkey portraits to vibrant rainforest scenes. Through storytelling and art, we’ll explore big feelings—grumpy, happy, silly, and everything in between—while celebrating self-expression and creativity.

In addition to art, campers will enjoy interactive games, nature-inspired activities, and movement breaks, helping them shake off the grumpies and have tons of fun! Each day will bring a new jungle adventure, encouraging kids to embrace their emotions, unleash their creativity, and enjoy a summer full of laughter and art.

Let the wild rumpus begin! In this creative and hands-on summer art camp, students will bring the beloved story Where the Wild Things Are to life by designing and constructing their own diorama inspired by scenes from the classic book. Using a variety of multi- and mixed-media techniques, campers will explore sculpture, painting, and collage to create imaginative three-dimensional worlds.

Throughout the week, students will also learn about the artistic style and storytelling techniques of the book’s author and illustrator, Maurice Sendak. From fantastical creatures to lush landscapes, campers will dive into the magic of visual storytelling while developing their own artistic skills.

Perfect for ages 8 to 12, this camp is ideal for young artists who love books, creativity, and hands-on crafting. The week will culminate in a showcase where families can admire the wild and wonderful dioramas created by our campers. In this fun and imaginative class, children will create their own under-the-sea dioramas filled with mermaids, colorful sea creatures, shimmering sandcastles, and seashells. They’ll paint beautiful ocean scenes, play with kinetic sand, and bring their creativity to life through hands-on projects.

Throughout the workshop, we’ll dive into mermaid stories, sing along to ocean-themed tunes, and watch special scenes from The Little Mermaid for inspiration during snack breaks.

SPIDEY’S SUPER ART CAMP

Calling all little superheroes! In this fun and action-packed preschool art camp, young artists will explore the colorful world of super heros through hands-on art projects inspired by their favorite web-slinger. From painting city skylines to crafting their own superhero masks and capes, campers will use a variety of creative materials to bring their Spidey-inspired imaginations to life.

Throughout the camp, children will develop fine motor skills, experiment with colors and textures, and enjoy interactive storytelling based on the exciting adventures of Spider-Man. Each day will be filled with art, movement, and superhero fun, making it the perfect camp for little ones who love creativity and adventure!

This camp is designed for preschoolers and encourages creativity, teamwork, and lots of superhero-sized fun. At the end of the week, families will be invited to a special “Superhero Showcase” to celebrate the amazing artwork created by our little web-slingers!

ANIMALS, ANIMALS, ANIMALS

From black hogs to chickens, barn cats to donkeys, cows to ducks, and more—make new farmyard animal friends in this collaboration workshop with the Art Base at Rock Bottom Ranch. Days will be spent learning about the different habits and behaviors of the ranch animals and wildlife, and creating unique mixed media representations of your favorite furry or feathered pal. Bring these animals to life by painting, sculpting, building and collaging. This workshop is for animal lovers only!

Pre-requisite – Kids must have completed Kindergarten to attend this class.

SUPPLIES AND WHAT TO BRING
Art supplies are provided for all summer art camps. Please pack a lunch, water bottle and two snacks for your child. Dress your child for mess and have them bring a hat and sunscreen as we will be spending time outdoors.

CANCELLATION POLICY
Please give as much notice as possible if you need to cancel a registration. Cancellations with notice of 14 days or more will be issued a refund less a $100 cancellation fee. Cancellations within 14 days of the workshop will be charged the full cost of registration.

SCHOLARSHIPS
Scholarships are available for all Art Base classes. Applications can be found on the Art Base website in both English and Spanish. Complete the online form or email the completed application and any questions regarding scholarships to holly@theartbase.org.
