Name Change

We are undergoing an exciting transformation and name change into The Art Base, a vital new enterprise to nurture and celebrate the visual arts and artists of the Roaring Fork Valley. The Art Base will provide a base of operations for artists through education, exhibitions and events that support and stimulate the vitality of the community and foster creative expression for all ages and abilities.

Thank you to the Wyly family for their support of the arts and our community—they were instrumental in the founding of our organization and we could not have done it without them. We are honored to continue their legacy and proud to announce the naming of our main campus exhibition space the Charles J. Wyly Gallery.

Our logo, style guide, and website will evolve over the next few months. Stay tuned for updates.

The name change to The Art Base provides the impetus to better realize our original creative vision and to expand our impact in serving the broader community in visual arts.

We are in beginning conversations with the Town of Basalt regarding the sale of the old library building, and a 99-year lease for the ground under the building. We are planning for a launch of a capital campaign this spring for the purchase and renovation of the building. In addition to the plans to build both an an official classroom space and a high-caliber gallery on-site, we are partnering with the Town of Basalt on an idea to develop a multi-use exhibition space to boost our earned income through flexible, community-oriented event rentals.

This is a wonderful time to get involved at The Art Base, not only do we plan to purchase our building, we are embarking on a five-year strategic growth plan which will incorporate three new programs—Art Share, an online rental gallery of visual artworks to bring local and regional artworks into homes and businesses; Art Commons, an affordable shared social studio space; and Art as Healing, a valleywide collaboration with art, health and recovery.
